The original purpose was to create a search facility for a small company
publishing a directory of hotels, B&Bs, and self-catering accommodations in
County Kerry at Ireland's west coast. The company is no longer in business, its
website disappeared.
The goal was to create a website more viewer friendly than any other Irish
accommodation directories, that can be searched faster than all competitive
Irish websites, and achieves a higher search engine ranking for keywords people
enter when they plan to spend a vacation in Ireland.
All these conditions were met, unfortunately not months, but years after
development began. When he lost his investor Peter Zucht uploaded a website of
his own in December 2001 to get his brainchild into the search engine lists.
Without paying a cent for advertising, sponsoring, or express submission http://www.ireland-accommodation-directory.com
moved up from oblivion to the Top Ten at all major search engines for most
keyword combinations entered by people looking for a directory of accommodations
in Ireland. His search engine placement success
surpassed all expectations.
Even those search engines that accept paid submissions only place his website at
the top. The heavily subsidized website of the Irish Tourist Board lists more
accommodation, displays beautiful graphics, has versions in several languages,
and is certainly Ireland's most important tourism website. Yet newcomer Ireland
Accommodation Directory is deemed to be more "relevant" by search
engines although it is a frames site. This shows that frames sites that fail to
get a high ranking are poorly designed.
Ireland
Accommodation Directory was launched as a vehicle to demonstrate how
Findfast works, not as a means to generate income from advertisers. Some income
is being generated, but most directory entries were inserted free. Some even
without telling the accommodation providers who were surprised when they began
to receive booking enquiries from far away countries.
Inserting unpaid listings was the solution to the chicken-and-egg problem:
Without a reasonable number of items to retrieve a search engine is nothing. As
the software package enterd uncharted territory, years had to be spent on
streamlining, debugging, redesigning, trying different psychological approaches.
As an additional feature a program is being developed that will enable
accommodation providers to create attractive dedicated pages themselves online,
without needing to know anything about HTML or JavaScript.

Ireland Accommodation directory was extremely successful when
it was submitted to the search engines. It is now ranked
among the
Top Ten for keyword combinations used by tourists.
